[IMAGES] A seriously injured pedestrian on Highway 40

A seriously injured pedestrian and an accident involving three vehicles forced the closure of Highway 40 East Sunday morning between Saint-Laurent and Acadie boulevards in Montreal.

The accident between the vehicles happened around 4 a.m., when a 53-foot truck collided with a vehicle without an occupant that was immobilized on the road, said the spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec (SQ ), Claude Denis.

This car itself collided with another vehicle, which sustained only minor damage.

Urgences-santé was subsequently called in to treat a man who was about 500 meters in front of the immobilized car and who had serious injuries.

The man, who would be the driver of this vehicle, was taken to a hospital where his state of health is now stable, said the spokesperson for the SQ.

However, the link between the accident and the pedestrian still remains unclear.

An SQ reconstitutionist was present at the scene of the accident to shed light on the event.

The injured man will also be contacted later to provide more details.

The Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM) also intervened to erect a security perimeter around the scene of the event.

Highway 40 East was completely closed to traffic from the Laurentides interchange on Sunday morning before reopening a few hours later.
