A man from Quebec in his thirties may consider himself lucky to be alive following a spectacular vehicle explosion that inflicted serious injuries on him.

The emergency services received several calls at 7:24 am, Saturday, about an explosion heard in the parking lot of an apartment building on rue Dijon in the Sainte-Foy sector.

The explosion allegedly took place after the victim opened the back door of his vehicle. A fire then broke out, consuming the entire vehicle and hitting a nearby car, which was also extensively burned.

“I heard a big boom and then someone screaming in pain,” describes Marie-Pierre Michaud, a resident who lives nearby. I went out to my balcony and saw that there was a fire. […] It was stressful. ”

Debris everywhere

Following the explosion, debris from the car was thrown several meters away, damaging further cars. The roof of the burned-out vehicle was even found on nearby land.

The man in his thirties was injured in particular in the upper body, but his life would not be threatened. He was conscious when help arrived. He was taken to hospital.

According to the hypothesis considered, a cylinder containing flammable gas under pressure would have leaked into the passenger compartment without its knowledge.

Investigation
