The Bundesliga soccer coaches Christian Ilzer and Markus Schopp consider a Bundesliga restart in mid-May feasible for training control reasons. “It’s enough for me in mid-May,” said Austria coach Ilzer in a video interview with Sky, provided that after the start of the training in small groups, regular team training can follow after another two weeks.
“If everything goes according to plan, a realistic scenario could be in mid-May,” Hartbergs Schopp agreed with his colleague, referring to the Covid 19 tests that had to be carried out beforehand. “We all want to finish the championship on the green grass. There will be no perfect way.”
–
Starting next week, Ilzer plans to focus on “fitness training with the ball” and to incorporate tactical elements. In “ten to 14 days” of team training, the basic match fitness was to be established. The condition of the players is then not ideal. “But it will be enough to be ready.”

Robert Ibertsberger was appointed coach of SKN St. Pölten on March 9, the day before the first league suspension. “It is important for me that I can do things with the entire team that I have set in my head for the first week and that I wanted to do with the team on the pitch,” said the Salzburg player. “If it’s a week more, I’m not angry either.” If the starting signal is given in mid-May, “we will be able to solve this accordingly”.
–
The lead time is also needed to bring the players back to a common physical level. Ilzer about home training: “You have already noticed that there are differences between the players in terms of execution and quality.”
–
Small group training with up to six players should be possible again in Austria’s top league and for cup finalist Austria Lustenau next week. The clubs are still waiting for the criteria that an outstanding ordinance from the Ministry of Health will define.
–
The championship could be continued approximately four weeks after the return to work with the start of the master or qualification group and by means of “ghost games”. “The probability of this is difficult to assess. But I think it is possible,” said league board member Christian Ebenbauer on Thursday about the appointment in mid-May.
