Losses in the amount of more than UAH 3 million were incurred

The attackers connected to the line, stole electricity and threatened the ambulance station and water utility.

In the Chernihiv region, cryptocurrency “miners” illegally connected their equipment to one of the transformer substations. They not only stole electricity, but also threatened the critical infrastructure of the region, informs press service of the Kiev city prosecutor’s office.

“In the course of the investigation, it was established that the organizers have created a powerful mining farm in rented storage facilities and joined the capacities of a power facility located nearby,” the statement said.

It is specified that the attackers, using special equipment, interfered with the work of the accounting system. Electricity services are received from this line, in particular, the KNP Nezhinskaya ambulance station and the KNP Nezhinvodokanal.

Thus, the group not only stole electricity, but also posed a threat to the region’s critical infrastructure, the press service said.

In two months, the attackers inflicted only direct losses amounting to more than three million hryvnias.

The premises of the mining farm were searched. More than 150 pieces of equipment for generating cryptocurrencies and specialized equipment for interfering with the automated electricity metering network were seized.

Investigative actions continue.
