16:05 – Mohamed Ihattaren can call himself an Ajax player in the foreseeable future, Fabrizio Romano knows. Juventus and Ajax would have reached an agreement on a rental transfer with option to buy. The only thing that can still stand in the way of a transfer are the negotiations between the team from Amsterdam and the footballer, although the chance seems nil that the parties will not come to an agreement.
Erik ten Hag has already had a conversation with the attacking midfielder, who left PSV last summer. Under Mark van Bommel he had grown into one of the greatest talents in the Netherlands, but successor Roger Schmidt was a lot less positive about him. The footballer ended up on the bench and, partly due to the death of his father, was unable to fight back in the basic team. He left on a free transfer to Juventus, which immediately let him on to Sampdoria.
He has not played a minute in Serie A. Ihattaren felt alone at the club from Genoa and returned to the Netherlands, where he has been training with Gerald Vanenburg for a while. FC Utrecht seemed to take him over on a rental basis this winter, but out of nowhere the rumors came that Ajax was also interested in a collaboration. That club now seems to have won the battle.
In Amsterdam, the attacking midfielder will face serious competition from Steven Berghuis and Davy Klaassen, while there are also plenty of good players on the wings. In addition, it is questionable how fit Ihattaren will be when he signs his contract. By hiring him first, Ajax takes almost no risk if the footballer’s potential is not realised.
