Ignored because of skin color? Racism charge against Lokal – Vienna

A waiter is said to have ignored a Viennese woman because of her skin color. The landlady resists the allegations and now suggests a meeting.

“The Gasthaus Reinthaler has welcomed guests from near and far and from all generations for many years,” says the homepage of the restaurant at Stuwerstrasse 5 (Leopoldstadt). A guest who even lives in the same city cannot confirm this: on June 18, Stella Adamu-Fuhs wanted to enjoy a good meal with her boyfriend after work. The black woman from Vienna still has a local visit to her stomach. It was not because of the food, because apart from drinks nothing was served to either of them: “The waiter came to our table and promised to bring the menu. However, he never came back, even after shouting and hand signals,” she says Unionist on Twitter. “After we were demonstratively ignored for 45 minutes and my tears came, we left,” continued the Viennese. “I don’t blame anyone for racism, but I suspect it’s because of my skin color,” said Adamu-Fuhs.

“I’m not a racist”

“We can not believe what is happening to us there!”, The landlady Kirsten Reinthaler now resists on Facebook against the accusations. According to her waiter’s description, the incident would have been different: after the employee had served the couple their drinks, they would have given no sign of wanting to order anything else. “They left our inn without another word and put the payment for their drinks on the table. A behavior that is not uncommon in the hospitality industry,” explains Reinthaler.

“I’m not a racist,” emphasizes the landlady “Today”-Conversation. She has run the restaurant near Prater for 15 years. “My staff comes from Croatia, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain and Tobego,” said the landlady. Postscript: “I’m sorry that the lady felt uncomfortable with us”. In a personal conversation with Adamu-Fuhs, the landlady now wants to clear the allegations out of the way. “You and your companion are welcome, the bill goes to me”. Reinthaler is also considering taking legal action if the situation does not calm down.

Wienerin no longer wants to enter the pub

An invitation that Stella Adamu-Fuhs currently knows only through the media. “I decline with thanks. I wish the owner all the best, but I will not visit the restaurant again,” said the trade unionist, who does not wish the operator any harm. “But it was important to me to show that something like this will also happen in 2020”.

Unionist publicized incident on Twitter

The incident was first made public by Veronika Bohrn Mena. “My dear colleague and friend Stella Adamu-Fuhs was not served at the Gasthaus Reinthaler because she is black,” the trade unionist and author tweeted on Monday. The tweet was shared over 300 times within 24 hours.
