Ignion’s Virtual Antenna® technology wins the European Innovation Council’s competitive Accelerator Award

BARCELONA, Spain, June 1 /PRNewswire/ Ignion SL, a global provider of breakthrough IoT antenna solutions, announced that the company has been recognized by the European Commission’s European Innovation Council (EIC) Accelerator for its innovation and high business potential. The award is presented for the first miniaturized multi-radio chip antenna component tailored for the Internet of Things (IoT) and cloud-based digital twin platform called Antenna Intelligence Cloud™ (AIC). Ignion was one of 74 winners from a field of 1000 participants from 18 countries. The awards were based on a number of criteria including excellence, upside potential, risk level and execution.

“We are thrilled to be the first and only antenna solutions company to receive this prestigious award and significant investment from the EIC,” said Dr. Jaume Anguera, CTO and Founder of Ignion. “Our breakthrough technology is already being translated into more than 25 million IoT devices deployed and the demand in the market is growing rapidly.”

Ignion’s winning entry is a novel antenna technology called Virtual Antenna®, invented and patented by Ignion with 53 issued patents in Europe, US and China and the revolutionary Antenna Intelligence Cloud™. Ignion’s antenna solution offers unique advantages in the development of IoT devices, since each “Virtual Antenna” component can be used at any frequency (from 698 MHz to 10.6 GHz) and with any protocol (LTE-M/NB-IoT, GNSS /GPS, Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth, LoRa and other ISM) providing design flexibility and scalability.Being approximately 10 times smaller than modern resonant antennas, the Virtual Antenna® solution fits easily into Small footprint devices such as sensors and asset trackers While the design process of standard antennas requires numerous physical prototypes, the electromagnetic behavior of Virtual Antenna® technology can be accurately simulated in software, resulting in simpler, shorter, and less expensive design processes Traditional resonant antennas can only be designed by electromagnetic experts, but the Virtual Antenna® component is designed so that any electrical engineer or technically versi expert can use the Virtual Antenna® technology in an IoT product.

Ignion’s Antenna Intelligence Cloud™ uses state-of-the-art simulation and machine learning to eliminate the need for development on physical hardware. A digital twin for IoT antennas is created, providing users with crystal-clear guidance to implement and optimize their RF antenna design with market-leading predictability and flexibility. The platform is ideal for accelerating the design process, with design results available within hours of submitting requirements through the Antenna Intelligence Cloud™ portal.

“The field of participants was extremely competitive, led by tech start-ups tackling societal challenges and solutions for sustainability,” said Mariya Gabriel, Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth. “The high level of innovation and creative problem solving was common to all prize-winning entries.”

“This award is the last step in a very competitive process, in which the participants have to present their project to the EIC jury members in a final interview. We at CDTI have supported Ignion in preparing the presentation so that they can achieve the goal with their innovative proposal,” said Luis Jesús Guerra Casanova, Delegate of the Program Committee.
