The e-bikes have been regulated by the Highway Code and by the European Union

With the Infrastructure Law Decree, for example, all those electric bikes deemed non-compliant have already been banned from the market. If we are caught driving one of these, in fact, we will be entitled to a very high fine.

Specifically to explain which bikes are not covered by the regulations, we will use thearticle of the Highway Code number 50. According to the latter, vehicles with two or more wheels able to move thanks to the strength of our muscles or a small electric motor with a nominal power of 0.25 kW are included in the cycles.

Not only that, having reached 25 km / h, therefore, the vehicle must be able to slow down independently to fall into the category. Plus all pedal assisted cycles must necessarily have a button that activates the motor even while the pedals are stationary.

Therefore every e-bike must have a way to progressively stop its race. There are also several regulations also regarding dimensions. Our bike, in fact, cannot for any reason exceed 3 meters in length, 1 m 30 in width and 2 m 20 in height.

Electric bikes will also be subject to penalties

Furthermore, according to the new Law Decree the continuous power delivered that our electric vehicle can reach is 250 W, a figure that can only be overcome for short moments. Anyone who produces, sells or markets a vehicle that does not meet these standards will therefore be punished with a fine ranging from € 1,084 to € 4,339.

Not only that, however, even those who make changes that increase power or speed to their electric bike will be fined, receiving a fine that can reach 3,382 euros.
