“If the Police did not arrive, they would have killed me”: Woman denounces brutal aggression

Mónica Patricia Ojeda Pabón, 25, had already ended her relationship with Said Nieto Yepez long ago, but they maintained an irrevocable bond: her seven-year-old daughter. As she told EL HERALDO and the judicial authorities, that was precisely the excuse her ex-partner used to abuse her and try to murder her.

Serious lacerations and bruises all over the body were only the superficial wounds that Monica received; However, the greatest damage caused by the brutal attack by Nieto Yepez is the fear that he has had to live with in recent days.

According to what was narrated by the victim in the complaint that he filed with the Prosecutor’s Office, the incident occurred last Tuesday, August 25, the day that Nieto Yepez had his daughter’s turn to visit. Around 8:40 in the morning, the man arrived at the house where Mónica lives with her mother and daughter, in the El Bosque neighborhood of Barranquilla, assuring that he had a “surprise” for his daughter at her home. Mom, where supposedly the minor was going to stay for a few days because “he was going on a trip to Santa Marta.”

With the excuse that he would give the girl gifts and asking Mónica to help him do some “shopping” for the minor, as stated in the complaint, Nieto Yepez convinced the woman to move to the house of the his mother, located in the Las Cometas neighborhood of Soledad. However, upon arriving at the house, her daughter’s paternal grandmother was absent. The house was alone.

“I went in and sat in the living room, and Said took my daughter to the last room and turned on the TV, distracting her with children’s programs. When we are alone in the living room he tells me to come back, to reconsider and to leave my current partner. I told him no, “said Mónica, assuring that she had a stable relationship that she had no intention of ending.

Then, with an apparent calm, Nieto Yepez went out to a nearby store and when he returned he offered Monica a drink that, according to what he said, left her disoriented and made her “sleepy.” “When I woke up, I found myself naked in one of the rooms,” said the woman in her complaint. Then, Monica realized that she had been abused and the verbal and physical attacks became stronger.

“He begins to attack me with a kitchen knife, wounding me in various parts of the body: in the chest, arms, legs, in the face and in the neck. I managed to disarm him, but he grabbed a large stone and started hitting me on the head and face until he threw me out of bed, ”she said.

Monica’s screams of pain and the angry growls of her attacker alerted her daughter, who left the next room and entered the one where her mother was to stand between her and her violent father.

“She asked him not to continue attacking me,” said Monica, “but he kept hitting me with his fists on the belly. I asked for help ”.
