Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The price of fuel oil aka BBM is very sensitive to increase for the community. It’s no wonder that when the fuel price goes up, there are often demonstrations from various circles, from students to the general public.
President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) said the current price of Pertalite gasoline is not the real thing. Without government subsidies, the price of Pertalite gasoline could reach Rp 17,100 per liter.
This was stated by Jokowi when giving a speech at the National Silatnas and 19th Anniversary of the Army Retired Army Association at the Sentul Convention Center, Bogor, West Java, Friday (5/8/2022).

“In our country, imagine Pertalite going up from Rp 7,650 to the current price, then the correct price is Rp 17,100. How many months is the demo?,” said Jokowi.
Initially, Jokowi told how the condition of the United States (US) is currently. The country was hit by rising prices of goods due to soaring inflation. Gasoline prices in the country have even doubled now.
Jokowi then remembered the government’s decision at that time to raise the price of fuel oil (BBM) by 10%. At that time, there was a massive protest action from the community for more than three months.
“I remember the demo went up 10%, I remember, the demo was three months. If it went up to more than 100%, how many months would the demo take?” said Jokowi.
The government, said Jokowi, is trying to control so that fuel prices are not affected by the increase in oil prices. Jokowi does not want to increase the price of gasoline, helping to raise the price of other consumer goods.
“Once the price of gasoline rises, the price of goods automatically jumps together. Therefore, the government has issued a subsidy budget that is not small at IDR 502 trillion, which no country dares to provide as big as Indonesia’s subsidies,” said Jokowi.
