The government will not drop Airbus on its way through the
coronavirus. This is what suggested
Gérald Darmanin this Sunday, questioned on Radio J. “We will see, and if there are ever difficulties, we will be there to help Airbus,” said the Minister of Action and Public Accounts, adding that “the aeronautics and the automobile industry are two major industries that we will need to help in particular, and the government will be there. ”
Airbus, hit hard by the consequences of the epidemic in the wake of the airlines, has reduced its production rates by a third since the start of the crisis and placed 3,000 of its French employees in technical unemployment. Last Wednesday, the group announced a financial loss of 481 million for the quarter.
“When we help Air France, we indirectly help Airbus”
Gérald Darmanin considers, however, that the manufacturer has sufficient cash “to pass the date of May 11” and does not envisage any specific measure other than those already taken such as loans guaranteed by the State, load deferrals or even direct aid to airlines. “When we help Air France, we indirectly help Airbus,” he said, referring to the seven billion euros granted to the airline whose planes are grounded.
