If I have passed COVID and have a dose, do I have to get another booster?

The people that fell ill with coronavirus and overcame the disease, have only received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, unlike those who have received two doses of the vaccine because they did not contract the disease.

However, even though it was considered as a complete regimen when receiving only one dose after being ill, it only appears as a single dose of the vaccine on the vaccination certificate. The increase in restrictions due to contagions notified in recent weeks, and the request for the COVID certificate both by some autonomous communities and by some countries in Europe, who request it to travel, have changed the scenario.

Madrid vaccinates those under 65 years of age who have had the disease since September

Faced with this situation, the Ministry of Health recommended to those people who have overcome the coronavirus request a new appointment with your autonomous community to receive the booster dose.

In September, Madrid was one of the first communities in announcing the booster vaccination for those under 65 who tested positive for COVID-19, with the aim of completing the vaccination schedule and being able to travel if they needed it. In the case of the Madrid region, centers such as the Wizink Center, the Isabel Zendal Hospital were set up to the Official College of Physicians of Madrid as long as they present the travel documentation.

Nine communities ask for the COVID certificate

At the moment, in Spain the COVID certificate it is requested in nine autonomous communities. These are Aragon, Balearic Islands, Canary Islands, Catalonia, Valencian Community, Galicia, Murcia, Basque Country and Navarra.

Instead, there are five autonomous communities that do not request it, among which are Madrid, Castilla-La Mancha, Asturias, La Rioja and Extremadura, while in others such as Castilla y León and Andalusia permission has been requested for its implementation. The document, which certifies that a person has been vaccinated and / or has overcome the disease, is essential to enter restaurants, bars and shows.

What’s more, to travel abroad it is essential to present it. European countries like Portugal, Germany, Italy or France, among many others, they also ask for it for the use of public transport or the entrance to shops, stores and premises, among other scenarios.
