I’d rather die at home


The President Commissioner of Pertamina, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok answered the reason why he did not attend the National Chinese New Year celebrations (Source: Kompas.com)

JAKARTA, KOMPAS TVEx Governor of DKI Jakarta, Basuki Tjahaja Purnama alias Ahok, reminiscing about the events of 4 November 2016, otherwise known as action 411.

Through his Youtube account, in the 12-minute Meaning Talks dialogue, Ahok begins his story with the atmosphere he felt when the mass action took place.

Ahok did not explicitly mention that he was not afraid of the events four years ago. However, he said that at that time he could still sleep well at home.

“If I say I’m not afraid, then you say I’m arrogant. But I want to say I can sleep well,” Ahok said as quoted by Kompas.com on Sunday (9/6/2020).

Ahok then told that a few days before the 411 action, the police had asked him to flee to an uninhabited island. However, he refused.

According to Ahok, he felt safer at home than being taken to a flight to an unknown location. Moreover, if something happened to him, no one else would know about it.
