Icelandic composer Hildur Guðnadóttir wins the Film Composer of the Year Award for the film ‘Joker’ and the American Nicholas Britell takes the TV Composer of the Year Award for the music for the series ‘Succession’.

Guðnadóttir also received an Oscar for the score of ‘Joker’. Two years ago she was nominated for the Discovery of the Year Award in Ghent for her music for ‘Sicario: Day of the Soldado’, and last year she was elected Television Composer of the Year thanks to her score for ‘Chernobyl’.
The Belgian composer Hannes De Maeyer, known for his collaborations with Adil El Arbi & Bilall Fallah, among others, has also won awards. With his magnificent score for ‘Torpedo’ by Sven Huybrechts, De Maeyer receives the World Soundtrack Award for Best Original Score for a Belgian Production, the film festival reports.
The World Soundtrack Award for Best Original Song goes to Joshuah Brian Campbell & Cynthia Erivo song ‘Stand Up’, which was written for the slavery drama ‘Harriet’. The WSA Discovery of the Year 2020 is Bryce Dessner who provided original music to Netflix-produced ‘The Two Popes’ by Fernando Meirelles – starring Jonathan Pryce and Anthony Hopkins.
This year’s audience award went to Alfonso G. Aguilar and the music for the animated film ‘Klaus’. The Lebanese-French composer Gabriel Yared, who was the very first guest of the WSA 20 years ago, received a Lifetime Achievement Award.
Due to the absence of international guests due to the pandemic, the award ceremony was organized online.
