In the film “Eisland” with Roland Kaiser and Pheline Roggan, Axel Prahl plays a widowed frozen goods dealer who has to take early retirement. His life gets into trouble.
The successful film from 2021, which has already been shown on ARD, will be broadcast for the first time on January 16 from 11:15 p.m. on NDR television and will then be available in the ARD media library.
“Iceland”: Axel Prahl as the frozen goods dealer Marko
For Marko, life mainly consists of frozen pizzas and back pain. For almost 30 years, the widower has been hauling frozen goods for the company “Eisland” to the front doors of his mostly older customers.
When Marko has to take early retirement due to illness, his life gets into trouble. But Marko has only one goal: his student son should have it better one day. Lawyer or judge, that would be something. The main thing is nothing where you have to wear a name tag. The death of a customer unexpectedly opens up a whole new business model for Marko. Unfortunately, he reckoned without the nosy neighbors.
When his own son finds out, Marko’s house of cards threatens to collapse. Then he meets his idol Roland Kaiser at the bar.
Axel Prahl: The role was tailor-made
The role of Marko seems tailor-made for Axel Prahl. With good reason: “There were a few good prerequisites,” says the actor. “First of all, I had the great advantage of having worked as a driver in a similar profession when I was young. In this respect, I was quite familiar with the topic, as well as the clientele that is primarily to be found in this working world.”
However, he had to learn how to believably play a herniated disc during filming. “What an irony of fate: a year later I had ‘intervertebral disc’ for the first time – and only then have I really known what bad Marko had gone through,” laughs Prahl.
Roland Kaiser: “The role fascinated me”
Roland Kaiser was also able to put himself in the shoes of what was happening: “The story of Marko Wendrich was so close to me because in my private environment some people have already used their personal crisis to break out of their everyday routine,” reports the singer. “I decided to take part in the film ‘Iceland’ because I was fascinated by the role that was offered to me.
Axel Prahl and Roland Kaiser have also been friends privately since they stood together in front of the camera at the Münster crime scene a few years ago. “I really enjoyed being in front of the camera with Axel Prahl again and realizing what a great actor he is,” says Kaiser.
