“Due to the declining performance before the play-off phase, we had to make a quick decision,” said sports director Gerald Rauchwald.
According to Rauchwald, the team needed a new impetus to successfully master the difficult tasks of the qualification round and to move back into the play-off of the domestic ice hockey league (EBEL) this year after a three-year absence. The VSV, who lost 3: 5 in Innsbruck on Sunday, is second in the qualifying round, the first three make it into the quarter-finals.
Pewal takes over until further notice
Aho had only been head coach of the Villacher since July. The search for his successor is “already in full swing”. Marco Pewal, who previously worked in the VSV youth team and coached Austria’s U20 selection, will take care of the “Adler” on an interim basis. “The national team break is now very convenient for us to prepare the team optimally for the upcoming difficult tasks of the qualifying round”, Rauchwald emphasized.
The next VSV match will only take place on February 11, when the two-point striker Fehervar will be visiting the Villacher Stadthalle.
