Icama no longer in hand; Saudi Arabia launches digital ID system

Riyadh: As part of Saudi Arabia’s digital transformation, the country’s citizens ‘and expatriates’ national identities, Icama (residency permit), driving license and Istimara (vehicle registration ID) are being digitized, said Prince Bandar al – Mashari, the minister in charge of technology. He said expatriates and expatriates would no longer have to carry these documents. The system uses digital ID instead of plastic card for official transactions. Al-Mashari said the portal “The New Absurd Individuals” was ready for that.

The digital ID can be used during security personnel inspections and transactions of banks, companies, individuals and government agencies. Plastic documents will be used as a final reference if required within or outside the country. During the test, the digital ID can be displayed on the portal or a copy can be stored on the smartphone. Digital ID Review service is available in the new “Absurd Afford” application. ID data can be viewed electronically via a variable QR code in the application. It also has the feature of being able to download a copy of the digital ID on a smartphone without the help of the internet.

Security officials can verify the authenticity of the digital ID using the Maidan platform. Maidan is the home ministry’s integrated security platform for controlling violations and transferring cases electronically. The Department of Civil Status has launched the “Digital ID” service in collaboration with the National Information Center and the Saudi Data and Artificial Intelligence Authority.
