Ic and hospital admissions continue to rise, further growth expected | NOW

In the last 24 hours, the number of corona patients in an intensive care unit has increased by ten. The number of COVID-19 patients occupying a hospital bed in a regular ward increased by 16. Ernst Kuipers, chairman of the National Network Acute Care, expected next week further growth due to the large number of positive tests last week.

The number of people who are in an intensive care unit with COVID-19 is now 77. The number of occupied hospital beds in a regular ward is 276 with the increase from Sunday.

The RIVM reported on Sunday that 1,849 new positive tests have been reported. On Saturday there were 1,887. On Friday, the day record was broken since the start of the corona crisis, when 1974 new positive tests were reported. Most positive tests came again from the major cities of Amsterdam (290), The Hague (181) and Rotterdam (111).

Because the waiting time at the test streets continues to increase and not everyone with (minor) complaints can be tested, the number of infections may be much higher.

Source and contact research is also under pressure. Multiple GGDs decided this week to let people who have tested positive call their own contacts, because employees cannot keep up with the number of tests.

Significant growth in the number of positive tests

In recent weeks, the number of people who are tested positive for the corona virus shows see significant growth. The daily record was broken four times in the last week. The previous day record was from April, during the height of the corona crisis in the Netherlands.

Minister Hugo de Jonge (Public Health) spoke about a second wave during last Friday’s press conference. Prime Minister Mark Rutte talked about a comeback of the corona virus.

From 6 pm on Sunday, additional measures will apply in six regions. These are the regions of Amsterdam-Amstelland, Rotterdam-Rijnmond, Haaglanden, Utrecht, Kennemerland and Hollands Midden. From now on, catering establishments are no longer allowed to admit new visitors from midnight and must turn off the music. The doors must be closed at 1:00 am.
