I shouldn’t have signed Rossi!

Jakarta

Valentino Rossi ended his career in the Petronas Yamaha SRT satellite team, but his journey over the past one season has not been smooth. The boss of Petronas SRT, Razlan Razali, even frankly regrets ever recruiting The Doctor.

The 42-year-old rider has only spent one season with Petronas Yamaha SRT. He swapped positions with Fabio Quartararo, who moved up to the factory team. Rossi tandem with Franco Morbidelli.

Rossi’s gait when collaborating with Petronas Yamaha SRT made the former former boss of Petronas SRT who has now changed his name to WITHU Yamaha RNF haunted by regret. He said he got an early contract extension after Franco Morbidelli’s success in finishing runner-up and Quartararo won three races in the 2020 season.

“If time could be turned back, I will decide in June 2021 to accept Petronas’ first offer. But I am negotiating to get more money,” said Razali as quoted by Speedweek, Wednesday (1/12/2021).

“To be honest, I shouldn’t have signed Rossi!,” added Razali.

“There was always an assumption that we had no choice because we signed Valentino for the 2021 season. There was an assumption that we were under pressure from Yamaha. But no, at that time there was no pressure,” he said.

Razali said before that he was sure that Rossi could bring his team to the forefront of the grid. But his prediction was wrong.

“I was skeptical that Valentino could finish third on the podium with Fabio and Vinales in the second series of the Jerez GP in July 2020. When I was standing next to the three riders, I thought ‘OK, maybe this guy (Rossi) can do it’,” said Razali. .

When the decision had already been made in mid-2020, Razali then saw Rossi’s performance decline after nine MotoGP races. It is known that The Doctor also missed two races due to being infected with COVID-19, after recovering Rossi has not reflected his status as a MotoGP legend. When he returned to racing, he retired at the European GP, and finished outside the top 10 at the Valencia and Portugal GPs.

“After that (being infected with COVID-19), the results were bad. But the decision for Valentino has been made,” added Razali.

The luck of the nine-time world champion hasn’t gone astray after moving to the factory Yamaha team to satellite, Petronas SRT. Rossi had to go up and down chasing younger riders during the 2021 season.

The first half of the 2021 season, Rossi has not reflected his status as a top rider, he even scored only three times from the first seven races.

Next Rossi fell in Portimao and Catalunya. Twice also The Doctor finished outside the points zone in Doha and Spain. Rossi’s only best achievement before retiring, which was to occupy the 8th position in the Austrian MotoGP rain.

“I think Valentino put himself under pressure. The young riders are much faster. Valentino did race better in lap times than before, but it wasn’t enough. He wants success, his heart and head are ready but his body is not,” said Razali.
