“I never imagined being the visible face of the AECC, it has been a challenge. It has been worth it and a lot “

Different personal issues, far from health problems, have led her to leave the city and with it to leave the presidency of a group of which she says “I will never stop being linked”

Asunción Martín leaves her position as president of the AECC in Peñaranda due to personal issues

The story of Maria Asuncion Martin It is that of a fight against the giant of the disease and dedication by generous volunteerism that goes beyond any personal ambition, fighting even against his own self.

Today when he is saying goodbye to the presidency of the regional Assembly of the Spanish Association Against Cancer in PeñarandaFor personal reasons that have nothing to do with health, she remembers with emotion this intense period of dedication to which she will remain linked for life.

But to know the end we must move to a beginning that, as Asun explains to us “it all started when I was diagnosed with cancer in 2017. From that moment on I met one of the Assembly volunteers here and little by little I got closer to the association. As time went by, I got into it and it was when the previous board of directors was about to end its stage when they proposed to take the reins and I didn’t think about it ”.

From that moment it began a new time, in which they experienced relevant changes such as the location of their current headquarters, located in the Plaza de España, in addition to being at the forefront of different initiatives that the AECC promotes throughout the province. “I started with María Berrocal and different volunteers with whom I have been pulling the assembly forward until now that, for personal reasons, I must leave it,” assures Asunción.

Never imagine being the visible face of the AECC in Peñaranda, it has been a challenge. Telling about my experience, my feelings… opening up to the channel before the public was difficult for me because of the way I am but it has been very worthwhile ”, he explains.

A task, which has meant not only an experience, but a learning process since, as Asun explains, “knowing what it is you get involved much more …Thanks to the association I have learned many things about cancer, in addition to experiencing it firsthand. Knowing about it motivates you since you are aware that you are doing something good, not only for yourself but for everyone, since unfortunately the disease affects all environments and I would say that all families unfortunately. We’ve been through sweats but

we have also been very involved and with all the pleasure in the world ”.-

The task of the Peñarandina Assembly of the Spanish Association Against Cancer has been a challenge, since since its foundation, and especially in recent years, they have carried out events such as the shop window contest against breast cancer, concerts by own initiative, film projection, as well as different information and cost campaigns, always counting on the support of all the volunteers, and it is that, he affirms, “People get involved in an incredible way”.

A task that must now continue and that will have Maria Berrocal as the visible head of a movement that, as they claim, “needs hands to help”. “There are many volunteers who in the activities get going quickly and they are really very important. But we need to have more help with which to organize and design the activity of the association in the city on a day-to-day basisAsun assures.

That is why all those who want to collaborate with the AECC in Peñaranda and be active volunteers, can contact the local delegation through the phone 693723842 or through María Berrocal, who now assumes the maximum responsibility of the local community.

Among the challenges that are posed in the immediate future is the possibility of carrying out a cost and an information campaign at the end of March, something that is not sure yet. The rest have been paralyzed due to the health situation, for which, according to they assure, “it has also affected us, since events as important as the solidarity dinner have not been possible, which means receiving less aid, although people are also collaborated by setting aside their donations despite not being made ”.

“Being able to help sick people, special cases, and all their environments, is something that I will never forget, it is a vital experience that I will never let go of” assures Asunción, who now, with his physical departure from the city, does not want to put aside his connection with a local group that is as dear as it is close.
