“I hope to continue fighting for working families in Queens” – Telemundo New York (47)

NEW YORK – Senator of Colombian descent Jessica Ramos won re-election to represent District 13 in the state Senate that addresses different Queens neighborhoods: Jackson Heights, Corona, Elmhurst, East Elmhurst, Woodside and Astoria.

Democratic Sen. Jessica Ramos beat her opponent, Republican Jesús González, with a large majority of the vote. Ramos took 76% of the votes, (46,646), unlike González, who obtained 24% of the votes, (14,526).

Ramos, who was the first in her family to be born in the United States, has been known for seeking to bridge the gap between immigrant and non-immigrant communities.

The senator expressed her appreciation to voters for re-electing her to their team.

“I am deeply honored and grateful to all of you for allowing me to serve as your state senator in the district that I have called home my entire life. I look forward to continuing to fight for working families in Queens and beyond, ”Jessica Ramos wrote on her social media.

Jessica Ramos was elected for the first time in 2018 and outside of defending immigrants she has worked for the rights of her community, such as that of tenants. Jessica Ramos is part of a group of progressive young women who have won the elections, such as the congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez.
