– Even before the Tokyo Olympics, scheduled to be held in July this year, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) changed the Twitter nameplate photo (initial screen) to a photo of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, which is controversial in Japan.
On the 10th, Twitter account’Olympics’ (@Olympics) changed the picture on the first screen to a picture containing the characters of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics in China. The hashtag’#1YearToGo’ is included, so it seems to be to promote the Olympics, one year left until the event. This account is the official PR channel for the Olympics, directly operated by the IOC.
However, Japan is reacting sensitively. This is because there is still a lot of controversy over whether or not the Tokyo Olympics will be held, and speculation is being made that what the IOC has for the next event to be announced on the official promotional channel is included.
Although it may be a simple photo replacement, this issue was also discussed at the official press conference of the Minister of Justice, which focuses on major issues of the Japanese government. At a press conference held on the afternoon of the 10th, a reporter mentioned the matter and inquired whether the Japanese government was grasping relevant information.
Kato Katsunobu (加藤勝信) replied, “The opening date of the Beijing Games will be on February 4th next year.” It is intended to be of little significance.
