“I expect a close game”
Interview Krefeld The ex-captain of the Krefeld Pinguine will return to the Yayla-Arena on Wednesday with the Iserlohn Roosters. With his new team he is aiming for a place among the top four teams.

Torsten Ankert was under contract with the Krefeld Penguins from October 2018 to the end of November 2020 and was team captain of the Black and Yellows from summer 2019 until his contract ended three weeks ago. Before returning, the RP spoke to the 32-year-old defender wearing the Iserlohn Roosters.

How did you find it in Iserlohn?
–
Anchor I found it good, the framework conditions are right. It was important for me to be with the team right from the start of the ice training. Because I already had a small head start through training and the games in Krefeld, it wasn’t as difficult for me as the other guys.

How do you rate your new team?
–
Anchor I can’t say much about that yet. We only had two preparation games against Cologne. Overall, however, I have a good first impression of our team. In the storm we have both big and strong players, but also a few small and nimble boys. It’s looking pretty good in training, but we’ll definitely have to find each other in the games. A place among the top four in our group should be possible.
–
How do you feel when you come to the Yayla-Arena, but go to another cabin and face Martin Schymainski as captain on the ice before the game?
–
Anchor It’s a strange situation, also because everything happened very quickly. Something like that happens in sports. But I’m looking forward to seeing the boys again and playing in Krefeld. I call “Schimmi” every two to three days. I have grown fond of many guys and the employees at the office.
–
Aren’t you happy that you can now concentrate more on ice hockey again?
–
Anchor “Somehow. Last year I had to deal with the impending bankruptcy and this year with the overall situation for several hours every day. At some point I dealt with 20 percent ice hockey, 80 percent were anything related to it. You have conversations with fellow players who are worried. First in the hall, then in the car. At some point it also pulled me physically.
–
What do you expect from the game?
–
Anchor The penguins have already played in Wolfsburg and participated in the Magenta Cup. However, they have not yet been established and are still in the discovery phase. The special teams will play a big role. We have to stay away from the penalty box, skate a lot and get the puck to the goal quickly. I expect a close match. Little things will be decisive. This also includes not deviating from the game plan, keeping a cool head and embracing the atmosphere of a ghost game.
