At meetings with other victims, Batya also noticed that there were people with different backgrounds. “Then I thought, dear. But you were not talking about it in shame.”
Another factor was that it was difficult to prove that Batya’s dual nationality actually played a role in the Tax Authorities. “It was just a suspicion. That is now confirmed, I find it a relief somewhere. We finally have a voice, we are taken seriously.”
Snubbed
Nazmiye Karaduman also has a bit of hope that something will change now, where she said earlier no longer have any confidence in the matter. Nazmiye is indebted to the tax authorities for around 30,000 euros: she became the victim of allowance fraud due to the care of her children.
She calls the conclusions of the Dutch Data Protection Authority “very annoying, painful and incredible”. She thinks it is unimaginable that something like this could have happened to the Dutch government. “Can’t this just be put aside? I now place my hopes on that.”
Like Batya, Nazmiye saw the news coming. “The tax authorities treated me like a dog. They never answered me, snubbed me, it was as if the whole team wanted to destroy us. So that was the intention.”
Excuses
State Secretary Van Huffelen, who is responsible for the tax file of the tax authorities, has today apologized for discriminatory registration with the tax authorities. She calls this registration “very serious” and wants to discuss the consequences with the parents involved.
“She apologizes every time,” says Nazmiye, “but I’ve heard enough words like that. I want to see deeds. I just want the Tax and Customs Administration to be properly addressed. We’re broken, we’re on, it’s been too long lasted for us. “
At least Nazmiye continues to fight for her own cause, she says. “Because my second nationality has been used in my file, while I never use it here in the Netherlands. That will be a lawsuit for me anyway. But I just demand that the Tax Authorities be punished. They have destroyed lives, many lives. be corrected. “
