Hyundai Motor will build the Jeju Green Hydrogen Global Hub by supplying hydrogen cars

Hyundai Motor Company contributes to the creation of a green hydrogen ecosystem on Jeju Island, which pursues the achievement of carbon neutrality by 2030.

Hyundai Motor Company participated in the “Announcement of Jeju Green Hydrogen Global Hub Construction Plan and Launch of Jeju Green Hydrogen Production Demonstration Project” held at Jeju CFI Energy Future Center (located in Gujwa-eup, Jeju-si) on 29th (Thursday) ▲ Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy ▲ Jeju Special Autonomous Province ▲ Korea They have decided to cooperate with Korea Southern Power to build a green hydrogen ecosystem in Jeju Island.

This event was held as part of the Jeju Green Hydrogen Ecosystem Construction, promoted on the basis of the government’s basic plan for implementing the hydrogen economy announced in November last year, in the presence of Vice President and CEO Lee Seung- woo by Korea Southern Power.

Green hydrogen is the hydrogen obtained through the electrolysis of water. It is produced in a similar way to “Gray Hydrogen” and Gray Hydrogen produced from fossil fuels, but “Blue” uses carbon capture and storage technology in the manufacturing process. Unlike the “Blue Hydrogen”, it is called ‘the last ecological hydrogen’ which does not emit carbon dioxide during the manufacturing process.

In Gujwa-eup, Jeju-si, Jeju-do, a large-scale green hydrogen production plant to which many water electrolysis hydrogen production demonstration technologies are applied will be built through the green hydrogen production demonstration project to be implemented from 2022 to 2026. In addition, in connection with this, the introduction of hydrogen mobility on the island of Jeju is being promoted in stages.

In the future, 50 hydrogen cleaning vehicles, 100 hydrogen buses and 200 hydrogen passenger cars will be supplied by 2025 on the island of Jeju. ) ▲ In addition, 1,000 hydrogen cars will be supplied (1,200 cumulative units).

Hyundai Motor plans to start deploying hydrogen-powered city buses on Jeju Island starting in 2023 and also plans to introduce a mobile hydrogen charging station (for passenger vehicle charging only) to meet Nexo customer charging demand. , which are hydrogen cars.

A Hyundai Motor official said: “We are looking forward to the opening of the era of green hydrogen mobility on the island of Jeju, Korea’s zero-emission mecca. I will,” he said.
