Hyundai is preparing small electric cars for Europe – News

The smaller the car, the larger the electric drive is, mainly because of the high cost of the battery. Some are therefore talking about the imminent demise of the A segment, i.e. the smallest cars for the city, where Hyundai is one of the strong players.

Perhaps this is also why he does not want to give up this part of the market, at least according to the American website Carscoops, which refers to unnamed sources inside the automaker. According to them, Hyundai is working on two electric cars intended for the city, one of which should be a crossover.

The automaker has already stated in the past that it is developing an A-segment electric car, which is to be sold at a price of up to 20,000 euros (about 475,000 crowns at today’s exchange rate). Not even the Dacia Spring is sold in our country for so little money, for the launch of which on the European market the automaker had to make astonishing compromises.

Since then, there have been indications that the company is also working on a second, similarly sized car. There are no official details about either of them, but the Americans say that one can be expected to be the equivalent of the i10 model and the other of the Asian Casper model.

In terms of design, we can only speculate, but there are essentially two possibilities. One is that the news will go the way of the ioniq 5 and 6 and will use glowing “pixels” in their design, the other is that the cars will imitate the cute Casper design. It is he who stands behind his warm welcome.

As far as the technology is concerned, there is also not much information in the world yet. It doesn’t seem likely that Hyundai will use the E-GMP platform on which the mentioned ioniqs stand. It would probably be too expensive for use in an A-segment car.

According to the Americans, the modification of the K1 platform, on which the i10 model stands – and the already mentioned casper, seems more likely. It already exists in an electric variant, in which it supports the Korean Kiu Ray EV, and an electric casper is also expected to be shown this year.

It goes without saying that there would be a significant modification in terms of comfort, noise and safety so that the cars have a chance to stand up in the demanding European market. After all, the already mentioned Dacia Spring was also created in such a way.

Hyundai has previously stated that its future small electric cars will use a BorgWarner powertrain. It can produce up to 184 horsepower.

We should probably learn more this year, as the first of the two electric cars is supposed to be shown sometime in the middle of the year. The car company is to keep the second until the end of 2024.
