Hyperloop, the “car” of the future designed by a Romanian. Elon Musk and Switzerland, interested in Denis Tudor’s projects

Denis Tudor is 26 years old, he is a doctoral student at the Polytechnic of Lausanne, Switzerland. He has his own company, Swisspod, and comes up with a solution for the Hyperloop transport system, also proposed by billionaire Elon Musk, whom he met and was awarded.

“I’ve seen Elon about three times. The last time I talked to him was in July 2018, at SpaceX headquarters in Los Angeles. We had a meeting with him for an hour and a half, in which we discussed how the “Hyperloop” should be built. I have a good impression and he is a very nice and quiet guy. I don’t know how he behaves with his employees, but with us, the collaborators, he had a very good attitude “, says Denis.

What does Hyperloop mean?

In the Romanian’s view, Hyperloop would be efficient over distances of up to 1,600 kilometers. “Hyperloop” is a kind of capsule that would run in a special tube with speeds of up to 1,200 kilometers per hour.

Thus, according to estimates, Swisspod capsules will be able to transport passengers from Geneva to Zurich, ie a distance of over 270 kilometers, in just 17 minutes.

But Hyperloop will not only be for passenger transport, but also for freight, which makes it even more valuable. Important at a time when so much emphasis is placed on lower energy consumption and pollution reduction, Hyperloop has a notable advantage here as well.

The costs of implementing the project are apparently high, but a closer analysis shows that it would not exceed the costs of building a subway. A kilometer would cost between 26 million Swiss francs and almost 50 million. For example, the approximately 20 kilometers of subway to be built in Cluj cost 1.2 billion euros.

He slapped the Americans

As CEO and co-founder of Swisspod, the Romanian signed on Thursday, September 2, a partnership with TTCI, a subsidiary of the American Railroad Association, for the development and construction of the newest Hyperloop test facility in Pueblo, Colorado. This shows how serious the project is and how big the interests around it are.

“The initiative follows the launch by Swisspod of the first operational test track in Europe in July 2021. The company’s second unit will be built at PuebloPlex, an expansive and growing campus with a vision for sustainability, innovation and economic development. long term, ”Denis said.

He also said the following at a conference held a few hours ago in the United States in Pueblo.

“We selected TTCI for its outstanding experience, leadership and success in testing, developing and implementing emerging transportation technologies. This new partnership will be vital for our positioning on the market, not only as pioneers of an extremely efficient propulsion system, but also as one of the most accessible Hyperloop infrastructure proposals in the world “, said Denis Tudor.

But his project is visible not only in the United States. Europeans are also interested in Denis Tudor’s project. Thus, the Romanian’s company is currently supported by the Swiss Government, which offers him a research grant.
