Hyères, capital of sailing during French Olympic Week

All Olympic sailing disciplines planned for the Tokyo and Paris Games will be brought together during French Olympic Week in Hyères from April 17 to 24, 2021.

The French Olympic Week (SOF) in Hyères is an unmissable event for sailing athletes from all over the world. The 53rd edition, which will take place from April 17 to 24, 2021, will be of particular importance since it will be the last major meeting before the Tokyo Olympics. The ten series on the Olympic program for next August – Windfsurf women and men (RS: X), single-handed dinghy women and men (Laser), single-handed dinghy men (Finn), double-handed dinghy women and men (49er), mixed catamaran (Nacra) 17), 470 double-handed dinghies women and men – will be on the program. In all, more than 600 runners from 50 countries are expected in the Var.

This 53rd French Olympic Week in Hyères will also be an opportunity to test the new events that will enter the Olympic program for Paris 2024 and will be contested on the Marseille waterway. These are the mixed kiteboard (kitefoil), mixed double dinghy (470), windfoil women and men (iQFoil). “The health crisis affecting the whole world has caused the postponement of several events, including the most important of them, the 2020 Olympic Games in the summer of 2021. We wanted to take advantage of this unique opportunity by integrating this year all the disciplines that will be present in Tokyo in 2021 and in Paris in 2024, this is a first and this 53rd edition will therefore be in the annals from this point of view ”, noted Ed Russo, FFVoile administrator in charge of the SOF. “Sportingly, the laser class will take advantage of the event to allocate their last European Olympic quotas, while the finns will compete in their European Championships. “ The final of the Ocean Race with a mixed crew co-organized with Palma and Marseille will also take place during this SOF, while waiting to know who the IOC will include this discipline in the program of the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.
