The tropical storm “Isaias” has developed into a category 1 hurricane and is moving at wind speeds of up to 130 kilometers per hour to the Bahamas and the US state of Florida, which is particularly badly affected by the coronavirus. The US hurricane center NHC expected the hurricane to increase in strength over the next 48 hours on Friday night (local time). He should meet ashore in Florida this weekend.

In the Dominican Republic, the storm already killed someone, rivers burst their banks. Puerto Rico was also hit, there were floods, and thousands of people were also without electricity.

In Florida, the authorities had already closed several makeshift Corona test sites due to the approaching storm on Thursday. The authorities spoke of a “precautionary measure”. However, there were no evacuation orders yet.

In the southern U.S. state, 253 corona deaths were reported on Thursday alone. This is a new 24-hour peak and the third in a row. With more than 461,000 reported corona infections, the state has become one of the centers of the pandemic in the United States. Only the most populous U.S. state has more cases of infection.

Almost 6,600 of Florida’s 21 million residents have died as a result of corona infection, officials said. In total, the United States has registered more than 150,000 corona deaths.
