Hurricane Delta hits Louisiana | Abroad | News

Hurricane Delta, although weakened, has caused significant damage in the US state of Louisiana. ‘The Pelican State’ on the Gulf of Mexico had already been hit by Hurricane Laura at the end of August. Much of the damage from that time has not even been repaired.

Delta left hundreds of thousands of residents without electricity. In some places the water was knee-deep after heavy rainfall. There were no reports of victims. Electricity also went out in a neighboring part of Texas.

Delta is the tenth tropical storm or hurricane to hit the United States this year. That’s a record.

Although feared for the worst, Delta turned out to be weaker than Laura. When the latest hurricane crossed the Gulf of Mexico on Friday, 92 percent of oil production there was shut down.
