Hurkacz donates 100 euros to Ukraine for every ace at Wimbledon | NOW

Hubert Hurkacz hopes to be able to raise a lot of money at Wimbledon for aid campaigns for Ukraine. The Polish tennis player announced on the eve of the Grand Slam tournament that he will transfer 100 euros for every ace he hits.

“I would like to announce that I promise to donate €100 for every ace I hit at Wimbledon. I hope my service is in order,” seventh-seeded Hurkacz said on Sunday.

Hurkacz is currently third on the list of players who hit the most aces this year. He has recorded 452 so far and only has to tolerate the American service guns John Isner and Reilly Opelka.

The Wimbledon organization has banned tennis players from Russia and Belarus from participating because of the war in Ukraine. Tennis association ATP is not happy with that. For that reason, players will not be able to earn points for the world rankings this time around.

Hurkacz plays in the first round at Wimbledon against Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina. Last year he reached the semifinals in London. A week ago, the global number ten won the grass tournament in Halle, Germany, by beating the Russian number one in the world Daniil Medvedev in the final.

Wimbledon starts on Monday. With Botic van de Zandschulp, Tallon groenpoor and wild card holder Tim van Rijthoven, three Dutchmen are taking part in the men’s race. Arantxa Rus is the only Dutch player in the women’s main tournament.
