Huntress boasts photos with the body of a giraffe – Noticieros Televisa

A hunter caused great outrage on social networks by posting photos in which she poses with the body of a giraffe he had just killed in South Africa. “I created jobs for 11 people that day,” wrote the woman, who also assured that hunting will save species in danger of extinction in that country.

Merelize Van Der Merwe posted photos of the incident on Facebook, and wrote that her husband had spent 1,500 pounds (43,246 pesos approximately) to take her hunting in a park where such activity is allowed. The images generated rejection among activists in favor of animal rights.

For her part, the 32-year-old woman points out that she has been hunting since she was five years old and that killed about 500 animals, among them, lions, leopards and elephants. He also assures that he has no respect for the activists and calls them “mafia.”

In his discussion with activists, Van Der Merwe assured that hunting, in addition to promoting tourism, promotes the salvation of endangered species.

According to the hunter, she and her husband had been planning the trip for some time. “My wonderful husband Gerhardt knew it was my dream. I was like a child for two weeks, counting the days. Afterwards I was flooded with emotions ”.

The woman justifies her actions by assuring that she generated “employment for 11 people that day” and “a lot of meat for the locals.”

“If hunting were prohibited, the animals would lose their value and disappear. Hunting contributes to maintaining endangered species. The only people who protect these animals are hunters, ”says Van Der Merwe.

Reactions to photos

Mark Jones of the Born Free Foundation rejects the arguments in favor of the hunt. “It is not a tool for conservation, nor does it provide significant funds for local communities.”

Another testimony, collected by The Mirror, is that of Elisa Allen, a member of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), says that “someone who murders another living being, cuts their heart and presumes it fits the definition of sociopath“.

“One day sport hunting will be considered a sign of a psychiatric disorder, as it should be now,” said Allen.
