Hungarian club puts Italian coach on hold due to coronavirus | NOW

The Hungarian football club Honvéd has put the Italian coach Giuseppe Sannino on Thursday inactive for fear of possible spread of the corona virus. The fourteen-time national champion currently occupies fifth place in the Hungarian competition.

“The replacement of Sannino and his assistant Alessandro Recenti is necessary because they may have been in contact with people living in the infection area,” Honvéd said in a statement.

“Honvéd must adhere to international guidelines to curb the spread of the virus. As a precautionary measure, the club board has taken this temporary measure to protect fans, players and other employees.”

The 62-year-old Sannino previously coached Watford, Palermo and Chievo Verona, among others. He joined the Budapest club in May last year.

Former Hungarian international István Pisont is pushed forward by the club to temporarily succeed Sannino. He previously trained the second team.

470 infections have been reported in Italy and the COVID-19 virus has already claimed 12 fatalities. More than 2,800 people worldwide have died from the corona virus.

The COVID-19 virus (coronavirus) in short:

  • The virus spreads mainly through cough and sneeze drops that hang in the air for a short time. Anyone who shows no symptoms is hardly a risk of infection.
  • Someone can infect two or three others on average (less than, for example, measles). However, this figure is falling due to all precautions.
  • The vast majority have mild (flu-like) symptoms.
  • Almost all deaths concern older or already sick people.
