Women play a prominent role in the resistance against Lukashenko. As a counterbalance, the Belarusian government organized a concert for women on Thursday that could seat 10,000 spectators.
The government is also trying to discredit them with derogatory comments. An Interior Ministry spokesman said earlier, “That aggression, that screaming, that screeching, it’s unfeminine behavior.”
Human chain
In the beginning of the demonstrations, women were spared by the police. Arresting a woman is a failure for the police, an argumenter previously told the NOS.
Women formed chains around men so that the police could not arrest them either. In the meantime, the Belarusian police no longer shows any reluctance towards female demonstrators.
Another general demonstration is scheduled for tomorrow in Minsk.
