The United Nations (UN) assured this Wednesday that the entry of supplies to Gaza remains interrupted after the seizure of the Rafah crossing by Israeli forces.

“So far, no goods have arrived for our use in humanitarian operations through the Rafah or Kerem Shalom crossings to the Gaza Strip,” said the spokesman for the Secretary General (AntĂłnio Guterres), StĂ©phane Dujarric, on Tuesday.

The spokesperson’s statements contradict reports from Tel Aviv authorities about the alleged operation of Kerem Shalom, a border access point with Israel.

An official from the UN Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA) assured from the enclave that they had not received any aid while the Rafah crossing area remained an active war area with military operations underway.

«We are hearing continuous shelling in this area throughout the day. No fuel or aid has entered the Gaza Strip and this is disastrous for the humanitarian response,” Scott Anderson, an Unrwa worker, said in a post published on the social network X.

According to Dujarric, the agency is collaborating with all those involved in the resumption of access to goods, including fuel, so that they can begin to manage incoming supplies again.

However, he warned, the situation remains extremely unstable amid active hostilities.

“We need all that fuel to sustain our humanitarian operations for the civilians in the Gaza Strip who so desperately need it,” the spokesperson insisted.

On Tuesday, the UN coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territories, Andrea De Domenico, warned that operations in Gaza could end in less than a day if no more fuel arrived.

According to the representative, humanitarian personnel barely had 30 thousand liters of fuel the day before, while daily needs are estimated at close to 200 thousand.

Under these circumstances, basic services such as water purification or the operation of hospitals could cease in less than a day, he said during a briefing.

Despite Israel’s promises to bring more fuel trucks into Rafah, located on the border with Egypt, the official was pessimistic about the matter.

The evacuation order issued since Monday caused the displacement of tens of thousands of people fleeing the governorate to areas that the UN does not consider safe.

Despite pressure from the international community, including its closest allies, Tel Aviv launched its offensive in Rafah that included the bombing of some areas and the seizure of the main crossing for humanitarian aid.
