Mexico injects hope by starting vaccination in all its states

The Mexican government injected hope from north to south by starting the vaccination against covid-19 on Wednesday in the health personnel of the 32 states of the country after receiving the shipment of almost 440 thousand doses of the drug from Pfizer and BioNTech.

This relief is reflected in the Regional Hospital of Puebla, central Mexico state, where the doctors expressed their gratitude after 10 months of working between precariousness and without rest.

“We lack a lot of education, we lack a healthy distance, right now this is the best thing to do and that they have a little more care in the health area, with a healthy distance and wearing a face mask,” Dr. Enerina Rojas told Efe .

Mexico was one of the first countries to start vaccination against covid-19 on December 24, but had only received 107,250 doses until before Tuesday, when a batch of 439,725 units arrived from Pfizer.

After starting immunization in the metropolitan area of the capital and in the northeastern states of Coahuila and Nuevo León, the country began vaccination in all states this Wednesday with the goal of covering all staff of the most of a thousand hospitals that treat covid-19.

But vaccination begins when Mexico faces records of daily increases in the pandemic, which accumulates more than 1.55 million cases and 135 thousand deaths.

“The whole situation that is happening is very sad, it is really very sad, because we are losing colleagues, family, friends and very dear people and we are fighting against this and people do not understand”, said the doctor Erika Vázquez after receiving her first dose in Puebla.

FROM BORDER TO BORDER

Baja California authorities celebrated “the beginning of the end” of the crisis after the arrival of 9,750 units to Tijuana, the largest city on the northern border and one of the hardest hit by the disease.

“I invite everyone not to lower their guard, this is only prevention, we must continue fighting. I feel safer for myself, for my family and for my work as well ”, declared Perla Guerrero, head of emergency nursing at Tijuana General Hospital, the first to be vaccinated.

After her, the doctor Jaime Hernández emphasized the new impulse to continue with his work.

“This is going to change the current panorama to what we are living, probably people lower their guard but as health personnel we must guide the population not to trust themselves,” he mentioned.

These images were replicated on the southern border, in Chiapas, a state that also received 9,750 doses.

“It was an emotion to know that I was the first on the list, I am grateful because it also comforts us to be calm, we can be with the patients and take care of our relatives because we are first contact personnel,” said the nurse Braulio Santiz.

The Secretariat of National Defense (Sedena), in charge of the distribution and protection of the antidote, reported that they have covered 94% of the programmed hospitals, with the missing in remote areas of Oaxaca and Chiapas, in southern Mexico.

The application of the doses ends in three days, with 8,600 elements that have transported the drug to 879 hospitals, according to the Presidency of the Republic.

“The vaccination will be carried out in three stages, in this first week more than a thousand workers will be vaccinated, in the first line of care: nurses, nurses, psychologists, nutritionists,” Octavio Couriño, chief of the Tzotzil-Tzeltal district, told EFE. the Chiapas Health Secretariat.
