Artist’s impression when the Asteroid Chicxulub hit Earth 65 million years ago. This massive asteroid impact helped change the atmosphere, which disrupted the climate. As a result, this collision suddenly wiped out so many species, ending the Mesozoic Age, about 65 million years ago.

Nationalgeographic.co.id—A giant asteroid hit the waters near Mexico’s Yucatán Peninsula 66 million years ago. Earth is covered in a layer of asteroid dust that blocks the Sun for years. About 75 percent of Earth’s life along with all dinosaur non-poultry is thought to be extinct.

Over the past few years, scientists have found more traces of the catastrophic impact, giving us greater details of the event. From dust covering the earth to forest fires up to 1,500 kilometers from the impact site.

In 2019, a team discovered the fossil record, including evidence of debris washed away by the resulting tsunami. Now, researchers have found traces of giant ripples or megaripples etched in sediment 1,500 meters below what is now the center of Louisiana, a state in the United States.
