Huesca‘s new Faculty of Medicine Construction Remains on Track
Construction of the new Faculty of Medicine in Huesca, housed in the former Children’s Residence, is progressing as scheduled. A recent institutional visit to the site included Isaac Claver, President of the Provincial Council of Huesca; Claudia Pérez Forniés, Minister of Universities for the Government of Aragon; Rosa Bolea, Rector of the University of Zaragoza; Lorena Orduna, Mayor of Huesca; and José Carlos Campo, Subdelegate of the Government in Huesca.
The project represents a total investment of €7.3 million, funded by €3 million from European funds, €3 million from the government of aragon, and the remaining funds from the Provincial Council.President Claver described the completion of the Medicine degree program in Huesca as “a dream come true,” emphasizing the project’s significant social and educational impact alongside its financial investment.
Currently, 40% of the construction is complete, with structural and foundation work finished, over half the roof constructed, and interior classroom work underway. Completion is anticipated next year, followed by equipment procurement, for which the Government of aragon has allocated €1.5 million. As stated by Counselor Pérez and Rector Bolea, the expansion of Medicine studies aims to address healthcare staffing needs and retain talent within the region. Counselor Pérez expressed hope that the Huesca campus will “serve to attract and retain talent in our territory.”
Along with the new faculty building, the Government of Aragon is also undertaking a separate project to establish biosanitary laboratories within the former Faculty of Medicine headquarters in Huesca, as reported by Rector Bolea.
