Huawei founder Ren Zhengfei hopes smartphone brand Honor will strive to outgrow its parent company. The Huawei branch will soon be split off.
Earlier this month, it was announced that Huawei its smartphone brand Honor is under pressure from US sanctions sells. The subsidiary was founded by Huawei in 2013 and focuses on cheaper smartphones.
Ren calls on Honor to become Huawei’s biggest competitor. In a farewell speech that news agency Reuters has recognized, he says that overtaking Huawei should become one of Honor’s drivers.
The US recently imposed sanctions on Huawei on grounds of national security protection. The country accuses the Chinese company of being a pawn of Beijing. However, evidence for espionage is lacking.
The sanctions have made it more difficult for Huawei to purchase chips or chip parts for smartphones.
Honor is being sold to a consortium of thirty parties. Since Huawei has no business interests in the new company, the US sanctions would not apply to Honor. This allows the smartphone brand to do business with chip suppliers and continue selling its devices.
