Huawei again caught cheating with photos

Huawei has long had a reputation as a manufacturer of smartphones ready to offer some of the best cameras on the market. However, the company has more than once become a participant in scandals related to an attempt to give out photos taken with expensive digital SLR cameras for pictures taken with a mobile device, albeit a flagship one.

On a Weibo social network, the Chinese manufacturer launched a photo contest for the best shot taken using a Huawei mobile device, and itself posted a video with many examples of photos taken supposedly using their own smartphones.

Unfortunately for Huawei, one very vigilant participant who had previously taken part in the company’s competition discovered a forgery. The two images shown in the video were taken with an expensive DSLR camera Nikon D850 (cost $ 3000), but at the same time signed as “a picture using a Huawei smartphone.” It turned out that the original photos are in one of the Chinese photobanks and were made by a man named Su Tie, who, as it turned out, had previously worked with Huawei.

The company quickly reacted to the embarrassment and began to apologize, justifying that one of the editors made the mistake of signing the photos incorrectly.

According to the resource Gizchina, Huawei simply did not expect that one of the users would notice that the photos were taken using a DSLR camera.

This is not the first time that Huawei has been caught trying to give out photos taken by expensive DSLRs for photos from the phone. Back in 2016, during the advertising campaign of the flagship P9, Huawei posted one photoallegedly made by a dual camera of this device. In fact, it turned out that the image was obtained using the Canon EOS 5D Mark III at a cost of $ 4,500. Similar situations were with smartphones Huawei Nova 3 and Huawei P30.

Nevertheless, it is worth noting that joint work with the German company Leica is bearing fruit. Since 2017, companies such as Samsung and Apple have not only surpassed, but rather catch up with their Chinese competitor in the issue of mobile photography.

Last year, the camera of the smartphone Huawei P30 Pro was named the best. The camera of the latest P40 Pro this year has every chance to keep this title. Currently, according to the DXOMark rating, the device’s camera occupies first place.
