The HSG Krefeld Niederrhein impressively lived up to its role as a favorite in the 3rd handball league on Friday evening in the Glockenspitzhalle. In front of 680 enthusiastic spectators, the Eagles swept Leichlinger TV out of the hall with a 40:20 (16:10) success and returned to the top of the season D table. While the black and yellow faced teams that were also aiming for promotion in the four previous matches, this time they faced significantly less resistance.

When the HSG players gradually arrived in the hall before the game, they looked in vain for Maik Pallach. The trainer had signed off that morning sick of the flu. Of the players who were also weak with flu during the week, only Jonas Molz was missing. Sports director Stefan Nippes took over responsibility for Pallach on the bench. He was supported by his brother Kristian, who was still active with the Bergische Panthers until a year ago and knows his way around the 3rd division like the back of his hand.

After muddled initial minutes, the HSG clearly took control of the score at 3: 3 and moved away to 10: 4 by the 15th minute. Goalkeeper Lasse Hasenforther was also involved with some saves. Stefan Nippes then took his first break and distributed his strength to new shoulders. For Maik Schneider came “KC” Brüren, for Andrej Obranovic came Matija Mircic. That posed even greater problems for the guests. A turner in the fall of Lars Jagieniak was worth seeing. Because the Eagles gave away a few free throws, there was “only” a six-goal lead at the break.

Nick Braun opened the scoring with a nice lift in the second half. At the circle now Antonio Juric stood for Jagieniak. The Eagles extended their lead to a calming 15 hits. Interim coach Nippes now gave everyone match practice. This is how the young Tim Buckle got his first goal of the season. The Leichlinger still found it difficult to correct the result in their favor because three of their top performers had to stay on the bench. The Eagles didn’t let up. Maik Schneider provided a treat with a Kempa trick hit.

“I can only give these guys a huge compliment. It was an unusual situation for her. We were able to distribute the playing time among a lot of guys. Some of them were a bit bruised, ”said interim coach Nippes after the game.
