Rome, Italy – YouTube is quietly rolling out a feature allowing users to temporarily access subscriber-only content through “gift subscriptions” awarded by the platform, based on engagement with channels. This provides a pathway for viewers to experience the benefits of channel memberships without a financial commitment.
The process begins with a channel enabling “gift subscriptions.” This is done via the Subscribers section, then Other (⋮), and selecting Gift settings, activating the Allow gifts option. Alternatively,the option can be activated directly from live chat by selecting the gift icon or a colored notification indicating availability. Not all channels offer this feature.
If a user is selected by YouTube – based on their level of interaction with the channel – they will receive a notification in chat and via email offering a free subscription, typically lasting up to a month.
