How to make a solidarity Christmas box for the poor?

At the end of the year, the now traditional solidarity Christmas boxes are back. They will be distributed to the neediest. But how to make them? And where are the collection points in Normandy? We tell you everything.

At work, with family or with friends, this initiative is increasingly appreciated and helps put some balm in the hearts of the most disadvantaged. With the Christmas holidays approaching, various associations are proposing to collect personalized gift packages, to be distributed to the weakest. The concept is to give yourself a gift, including basic necessities, a leisure product and a sweet note.

You can pitch the idea to your colleagues, or do it with family or friends. The idea is to make a gift box, which will be offered to a person in need. In the package you can collect for example:

  • warm clothing (gloves, socks, sweater, scarf, blanket, etc.)
  • a food product (non-perishable, unopened, no alcohol, no glass)
  • a hygiene product
  • a hobby (book, painting, card game, etc.)
  • a small word, a poem or a drawing without coordinates

You can also personalize your little box and add a nice packaging.

In the region there are collection points, where the associations can collect solidarity parcels. It is the latter who take care of distributing them.

  • In Granville (Manche), the Christian Ridel youth space is organizing a collection of solidarity boxes for the second consecutive year. One hundred and nineteen parcels were collected last year. Small precision: you must write on the box if it is a package intended for a man (H), a woman (F), or if the package is mixed (M). You must also enter the age if it is a package intended for a child only.

From November 28th to December 17th, you can drop off your box at one of the following four drop off points:

  • Christian Ridel’s youth space Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday from 12:00 to 14:00, then from 16:30 to 18:30. Wednesday from 12.00 to 18.00 and Saturday from 14.00 to 17.00
  • The agora, Monday to Friday from 8:30 to 17:30
  • Leisure reception, Wednesday from 7:30 to 12:30 and from 13:30 to 18:30
  • At the media library, Tuesday from 15.30 to 17.30, Wednesday from 10.00 to 12.30 and from 14.30 to 17.30, Thursday from 15.30 to 18.00 and Saturday from 10.00 to 12.30
  • In Amfreville (Calvados), the municipality provides a collection point at the postal agency, open from Monday to Saturday, until 14 December. It will be the children of the recreation center who will take care of decorating the package and inserting small cards. All parcels should be redistributed to the young isolates of Caen.
  • A Bernay (yours)you can deliver your solidarity box to the social center until 15 December, Monday from 9.00 to 12.00, then from 14.00 to 17.00, and from Tuesday to Friday from 8.00 to 12.00 and from 14.00 to 18.00.
  • In Rouen (Seine-Maritime), the local association Le Cadeau du Coeur started its third collection of solidarity parcels in early November. During the first edition, volunteers collected 5,000 parcels which were then distributed to associations, accommodation facilities, EPHAD and needy students. The collection ended on November 30th.

Of course, you are free to propose a similar initiative in the workplace, at your home or in your recreational club, and to inquire at an association near you, for the redistribution of solidarity boxes.
