How to distinguish coronavirus from colds and flu | Society

Coronavirus causes a disease called COVID-19. The World Health Organization has declared it a pandemic – a strong and widespread epidemic in many countries. The number of detected cases of infection is growing every day, as is the number of deaths. The diagnosis of the disease is complicated by the fact that its symptoms are quite similar to the signs of flu, colds and allergies. How to distinguish coronavirus from them?

COVID-19 has three symptoms that together are not characteristic of three other diseases. In patients with coronavirus, as a rule, there is fever, dry cough and shortness of breath. The first two symptoms occur together with the flu, and less often with allergies. With a cold, severe fever is rare, and a dry cough as a rule does not bother a very sick person. Respiratory problems can only be with allergies: such symptoms are not observed with colds and flu.

Headaches, muscle and throat pain, and fatigue can also occur (although not often) with COVID-19. With flu, these symptoms, on the contrary, are common. Muscle and throat pain is also common with colds and never occurs with allergies. The head, on the contrary, can sometimes hurt with allergies and rarely with a cold.
