HANK –
In many places they are no longer welcome or they can no longer go to the measures related to the corona crisis. Having a cup of coffee or eating a bouncer is no longer the case for many professional drivers in their favorite driver’s café. The Napoleon road restaurant in Hank is a bright spot for many national and international drivers. In a safe way they can still take a shower and order a hot meal.

“We have taken many measures,” says owner Ad Valk. “Drivers enter through a special door, can then place their order with someone behind a plastic screen. Then they go outside via a different route to pick up their order a little later on a table at a side door that is open. ”
Showers are also safe and separately accessible
At the end of the afternoon, early in the evening, the immense parking lot is usually full of seventy to eighty trucks from home and abroad. “We now also get foreign drivers who have not been able to take a shower for days or have had a good hot meal,” says Valk. “They are no longer welcome in many places in Belgium and France or everything is closed.”
To be of service to this group of drivers, Valk has also opened the showers and toilet areas at certain times. “These are separate areas where hygiene is very carefully monitored and they cannot enter the restaurant. We do have someone in the morning who comes to make coffee, but the coffee is made at the outside door of the showers. The drivers can then take the coffee with them to the truck. ”
Bring your own cutlery
The roadside restaurant, which nevertheless stores around a hundred meals a day with this special method, also has a special appeal. “I call on the drivers to bring their own cutlery,” says owner Ad Valk. “All meals are taken out and then we also lose our cutlery. We had plastic cutlery, but it is almost impossible to get there. Hence: bring your own cutlery.”
