According to Blick, up to 32 new places for foreigners were created before the 2022/23 season. Due to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, the highest competition in Switzerland has become the only alternative to the KHL for many top hockey players.
And it was from the Russian league that the most foreigners came before the season – 16, among them the bronze medalist from the Beijing Olympics, Peter Cehlárik. Compared to the KHL, foreign players had to pay significantly less, at least by 150,000 Swiss francs (just under 154,000 euros).

In addition to Cehlárik, players such as Mikko Lehtonen, Markus Granlund, Joakim Nordström or the Dane Nicklas Jensen will enliven the competition. According to Blick, which refers to information from player agents and other experts, the annual salaries of hockey players of this level range between 300 and 400 thousand francs net.
After the KHL, the second largest pool of foreigners is the Swedish Elitserien, from which ten hockey players made their way to the NLA. According to insiders, the income of a top player in Sweden ranges from 200 to 300 thousand francs.
