Dust after the premiere of smartphones from the series iPhone 12 fell – they are no longer on everyone’s lips, although initially they caused great emotions, incl. due to the removal of the charger and headphones from the sales kit. Now Apple is busy counting money, and it has a lot to count, because the latest iPhones generate huge profits.
How much does it cost to produce the iPhone 12 and 12 Pro smartphones?
According to the website Nikkei Asia, parts from South Korean suppliers in the model iPhone 12 Pro they are responsible for as much as 26.8% of the value of all components used in the production of this smartphone (while the American for 21.9%, and the Japanese – 13.6%). It is worth mentioning here that (according to sources in South Korea) w iPhone’ach 12 i 12 Pro Apple uses screens from LG Display, while in iPhones 12 Mini and 12 Pro Max from Samsung Display.
Nikkei Asia service took the models apart iPhone 12 i iPhone 12 Proand then (in cooperation with a specialist from Fomalhaut Techno Solutions) analyzed the components used in them and estimated how much Apple is paying for them.
It turns out that materials for iPhone’a 12 Pro cost a total of US $ 406, and components for the iPhone 12 – $ 373. Apple, on the other hand, sells them in the US (in the basic versions) for – respectively – $ 999 and $ 799 (in the variant for operators; unlocked costs $ 829).
So it’s easy to count that in case of iPhone’a 12 Pro the cost of materials is less than 41% of the retail price. As for the model iPhone 12, it is only a little more, less than 47%.
According to estimates, the most expensive components are modem 5G Qualcomm Snapdragon X55 (~ $ 90) and OLED displays ($ 70). The production of the Apple A14 processor is also quite expensive – $ 40. Other components are much cheaper – RAM bones cost less than $ 13, flash memory just over $ 19, and Sony camera sensors ~ $ 7 apiece.

So you might think that both iPhone 12 Proand iPhone 12 generate huge profits. And although it probably is, it must be remembered that Apple also incurs a number of other costs, including for research and development, support (which is extremely long, therefore expensive) and customer service, so Americans do not have exactly the difference between the retail price and the cost of materials used in the production of smartphones.
