How it works: Use smartphone & digicam as a webcam

Turning a digicam into a webcam is not easy, because the devices are not actually designed for this. We can therefore not present you with a solution that works for all cameras. But the open source tool digiCamControl brings you the live view of a camera connected via USB directly to the Windows desktop and, in cooperation with the ManyCam shown above, the integration as a webcam also works. DigiCamControl supports a lot of Canon and Nikon models, plus a few Sony cams. A current list the makers have ready.-

Install digiCamControl and then connect your camera to the computer using a USB cable. When the camera is switched on, it should be recognized and appear in DigiCamControl. Click the “LV” button for LiveView. You should now see the live image from the camera on your desktop.

Now it goes to ManyCam on Windows. There you need to add a new video source. Select “Desktop” and then “App Window”. When choosing the window, choose “Remote Live View Window”. Hide the other controls in the digiCamControl window so that only the live preview can be seen. You can also adjust the image detail using the zoom settings in ManyCam. Now you can use the live image of the digicam again with Teams, Skype or other video chat tools via ManyCam.
