How Facebook Dating Applications Work, Video Chat

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Facebook reportedly being tested dating app online named Sparked which invites users to chat with each other via video.

The way this app works is a little different from other dating apps which require users to swipe left or right of other users’ photos to find dates.

Instead, Sparked comes with a series of videos to connect with others to get a partner.

So, Sparked users will come face to face via video for four minutes, before moving on to the next person.

If the two people find it compatible and the conversation goes smoothly, they can schedule a longer conversation, 10 minutes.

After that Sparked advised them to exchange personal contact information. They can also choose to exchange contact info, such as a phone number, email or Instagram account.

The Sparked app is being developed by Facebook’s in-house research and development team, the NPE Team. But it has not been officially announced when this application will be launched to the public.

“Sparked is an early and new experiment. We’re studying how speed dating featuring video can help people find love online online, “said a spokesman for the Facebook NPE Team.

Sparked prepares for a preliminary test at Chicago Date Night. In the initial process, Sparked tells the user to behave. There are also male, female or non-binary dating options.

Quoted The Verge, The NPE team has launched many applications developed to support Facebook, but none of them have worked. So it’s unclear how committed Facebook is to the Sparked app.

Quoted Tech Crunch, Sparked will be the second online dating product from Facebook. Previously, Facebook offered a dating application product called Facebook Dating in 2019.

But the app operates similarly to most other dating apps, where people can view the public profile of a potential match and respond to their likes or dislikes, then initiate a conversation if they like each other.

At the start of the Covid-19 pandemic, Facebook announced it would launch a virtual dating platform that used Messenger for video chat.
