The dispatch was sent by Agence France Presse at noon on Monday, June 29. His title ? “The main Swedish pension fund is withdrawing from fossil fuels”. The news was immediately relayed by numerous media. Only problem, this information was fabricated.
On Tuesday, the activist group Extinction Rebellion (XR) claimed to have disseminated this false information. The activists justified their action by the fact that they had “disseminated the press release that AP7 should have sent”, thus wishing “to put in the spotlight these laughable investments and push AP7 to sell them”. The false news was indeed similar decisions made by other funds in Scandinavia and around the world.
